opting out of easter

Did you have a good Easter?

Hope so.  The Easter Bunny skipped my house, which means I didn’t get a basket.  It was a little disappointing.  He’s been skipping my house for the past 5 years.  I guess there isn’t anyone to remind him since my Mom has gone on to the proverbial “better place”.

You know what I did?

I bailed on all family functions.

You know why?

Because unless you are religious and use the day to Celebrate Jesus or Passover really all it’s about is bunnies and jelly beans.  I don’t have kids and I really don’t like forced family functions.

Selfish?

Yes, probably a little bit.

What about starting traditions with the family I helped build?

You know Chuck, Nani, Liko and Scooby.  The dogs might be just that, dogs, but they are our family.  I’m boycotting Easter Dinners until I have  a little human running around (if ever) or until I change my mind.  Easter is on a Sunday, which means most of us have to get up for work the next day.  C and my schedules are hectic and some weeks I live for Sunday, I don’t want to give it up for a holiday that I don’t really participate in.

What did we do?

We had a wonderful brunch, raked leaves, got the minibike running and made dinner. Yum! It was so relaxing, not having to run all over the place. It’s days like this that I thank God. For giving me the things I have in life and for giving me the choice to decide what I want to do.

Sometimes it’s nice to be grown-up!
